The organic farming in Chile develops like a management system with market orientation centring on the exportation, although sustainability associated with the handling of the agroecosystems commonly unknown. Given this condition, the sustainability of 40 properties under certified organic handling was evaluated, using the MESMIS methodology, Obtaining 14 indicators and 37 subindicators of sustainability inside 4 dimensions. The levels of sustainability are fewer in the Maule region, due to the fact that only 17% of the agroecosystems reach a sustainable level. In the Bíobío region 63% of the evaluated agroecosystems are sustainable, Agroecosystems at major sustainability level are associated at a high level of commitment and farmers experience, properties without parallelism with conventional production, high fertility of soil, biological activity, diversity and productivity.Downloads
